Canberra 2008 MTG is off and running

We are now into week 3 of our Canberra 08 program, and although I am not yet running (due to my hip injury) there is a keen group of people on the road to Canberra.

Canberra Marathon 2008 - training group will start soon

Stand by folks for the new training program for the Canberra Marathon which is on the 13th April 2008. The training program will start up late October.

See you then and enjoy a few weeks rest (I'm off to run the Melbourne Marathon on October 7th, and maybe take a week off after that!).

Sydney Marathon 2007 - we did it!

Well the group didn't all achieve the goal of finishing the first marathon, but well done to those who did on a hot Sydney day.
We had some injuries and sickness that prevented a few of the group from finishing, but some others were tough enough to complete their first marathon.
Well done to Fran and Brian on finishing in tough conditions - an awesome effort guys.

After all those hard training kms (1170 in total) it was worth it to cross the finish line at the Opera House on Sunday.

Thanks to the group for being so persistant and tough (particularly those wet Sunday runs) over the past 5 months. You fully deserve to have finished the marathon, and for those that didn't there are more marathons with your name on them, just around the corner.

Only 2 weeks to go

12 days until the big race! I hope the tapering is going well for everyone. It's my favourite part of the program. I can't wait until the carb-loading begins; limitless food (or so it seems).
Well done to the few of the group who ran the Willy to Billy 2 weeks ago - it was a tough track and we came home in just under 4 hours. I am absolutely confident that those who finished can make the marathon.
Only a few runs to go before the race. Try to avoid injury, and get plenty of rest.
See you at the 4-hour pace marker at the start of the race.

5 Weeks until the Sydney Marathon

This week we will hit our 1,000th kilometre of the program!

Last Sunday we ran the Cherrybrook Circuit STaR, and it rained for most of the 3hrs and 20mins that we were on the road for our 30km. Well done to the gang on holding out in the awful weather.

This weekend is the Mt Wilson to Bilpin run, which will be a good judge of your readiness for the Marathon. 36kms of bush track will be a challenging and rewarding run. I look forward to seeing you there.

The MTG is back after a break

Well it has been a while, but since the last posting, Jim Moody has handed over the reigns of the MTG to me. A massive thanks to Jim for the hard work he put in over the past few years, and congratulations to him in getting so many new marathoners over the line.
Hopefully I can provide the same assistance that Jim provided as the new MTG co-ordinator.
The group is currently in full swing training for the Sydney Marathon.

Stand by - I will post further updates shortly!
